Gr 8 Up—Whether problems are life-changing or inconsequential, learning how to react to and resolve them is key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle because "all choices have consequences." Set on the campus of Dominican University, the skit begins with a rather small problem: a student, while walking to class, trips and spills coffee all over his research paper. His professor grants him a short extension on the deadline which the student must meet. This informative program divides problem solving into six steps: learning to identify the problem, analyzing options, evaluating the pros and cons, implementing the best options, reviewing the plan, and preventing history from repeating itself. A brainstorming activity follows each segment, which segues into classroom discussions and individual learning activities. In addition, an alternating cartoon segment deals with the huge problem of finding a home for a hungry tiger. Its solutions mirror the research paper dilemma, concluding that the same strategy tools can be used to solve any problem, whether big or small. An online teacher's guide includes a reproducible student worksheet, lesson plans, and a post-test and answer key. What the program lacks in eye-popping pizzazz, it more than makes up for in equipping students with life-long skills to tame any "tiger" that might stalk their path. A great classroom resource.—Cheryl Preisendorfer, Twinsburg City Schools, OH
