The Out of Control Rock and Roll Reading Show

PreS-Gr 3—Wailing guitars, catchy tunes, and high energy rhythms are the hallmarks of most of these 12 songs, which are performed as if in a live concert, complete with clapping, cheering fans. Mr. Billy (aka William Charles Grisack III) wrote seven of the numbers, with friends Monty Harper, Sue Straw, Dave Kinnoin, and Will Hale each contributing songs as well. The tunes, some in a minor key, are performed in several different styles of rock and roll, including boogie woogie and R&B. The vocal performances include some very nice harmonies and the instrumental performances are excellent. All of the songs promote reading and library use, and some encourage listeners to get a library card. The playlist includes "Out of Control," "Meet Me at the Library," "Read-a-Rooey," "Boogie Woogie Bookworm," "Dig It," "Stop, Drop, and Read," "Bedtime Stories," "Shakespeare in My Ear," "Words," and "Overdue." "Blast into Books" celebrates science fiction books and includes the following memorable lyric: "I've seen Star Trek on TV, it's super neat,/But reading really puts me in the captain's seat."
