Gr 9 Up—An unusual topic makes for interesting viewing. Most teens will have little concept of what these military medals look like or what they commemorate, other than the Purple Heart. A brief introduction provides the early history of American military decorations. Veterans from each of the military branches, including the Women's Army Corps, discuss the various honors they received and the circumstances in which they earned the awards. Examples of each decoration are shown (front and back) and the meanings of the ribbons explained. The presentation is approximately 99 percent in color, with some black-and-white vintage clips and stills included, and the film moves at a comfortable pace.
VERDICT This title's unique subject matter makes it a fine purchase for school and public libraries, and the program could be used in biographical family research.
