She decides to try her luck someplace else and takes off. On a mountaintop, she finds a fantastic nest and moves in right away. After a lovely rest, she wakes to a loud cracking sound of an egg hatching. A dragon pops out, and when the dragon mother returns, there is no room for Littlest Bird anymore. With nowhere else to go, she flies home, and is warmly received by her family, who missed her very much. Littlest Bird learns the age-old lesson that "there's no place like home." With illustrations as sweet as the message, this story will resonate with children with siblings.
VERDICT While not a necessary purchase, this title will find a home in most collections.

In stilted and fumbling rhyme, Littlest Bird's tale of woe is unraveled: her nest is too small and her mother does not give her enough kisses. She flies off to find a better nest--one without all those pesky siblings and parents--only to discover (unsurprisingly) that home is best. Overly bright, doe-eyed illustrations match the saccharine text.
