K-Gr 2—How do animals hide themselves? One way is protective coloration. In this short program, viewers see close-up photos of six animals blending into their natural habitat: an inchworm, a praying mantis, a Florida green snake, a yellow moth, a hawk fish, and a North Pole fox. First, children carefully peruse the picture, and then the hidden animal is highlighted with a cute exclamation: "Here I am!" The enthusiastic female narrator proceeds to give a few more facts as an illustration of the animal in its environment is simply animated. A review at the end of the program repeats much of the previous information with read-along words on the screen. An additional short "Fun Science" feature provides more information about the featured animals. Some creatures are quite well hidden, while others are easy to spot. Still, it's fun to see how well they blend in. Teachers looking for visuals when talking about animal adaptations might find this a useful resource.—
