PreS—Two animal pals navigate early childhood friendship with heart and humor. In the first book, they drink some juice and have so much fun playing that Pip forgets to notice his body's cues. "Suddenly, there was a little puddle on the floor. Oh, no! "'It's OK, Pip,' said Posy. 'Everyone has accidents sometimes.'" They clean up, he borrows a dress to wear, and they spend the rest of the day painting pictures. In the second title, Posy is envious of Pip's scooter. She takes it without permission, finds navigating it more difficult than it looks, and falls off. Pip comforts her and Posy apologizes for taking the scooter. "Then they went to play in the sand where it was nice and soft." In the end they ride off together—slowly. The gouache illustrations done in bright colors are as sweet and playful as the stories, and the endearing young creatures have humorously expressive faces. Fun details add interest without distracting from the main action. These tender and funny stories will entertain young children.—
Amelia Jenkins, Juneau Public Library, AKIn Puddle, rabbit Pip wets his pants at his mouse friend Posy's house; she handles it respectfully ("It's OK, Pip...Everyone has accidents sometimes"). In Scooter, Pip must cope with Posy borrowing his scooter without asking. This promising new friendship-centered series includes art that nods at Rosemary Wells's work. Review covers these titles: Pip and Posy: The Little Puddle and Pip and Posy: The Super Scooter.
