Gr 4–7—Alfred Bunce, a professional bogler, has been particularly busy ridding London of bogles recently. These sewer-dwelling, child-eating creatures have increased in number to the point that the city created the Committee for the Regulation of Subterranean Anomalies, adding Alfred and his young apprentices Jem and Ned to the city payroll. Ned is loyal and quite clever, and though he aspires to other work, his youth still attracts bogles, making them emerge from dark, dank places. Mandy Williams returns to narrate the final installment of this engaging, fast-paced series, bringing Victorian England to life.
VERDICT Altogether, this is a memorable series that comes to a very satisfying conclusion.
