Gr 7 Up—Attractive overviews of the music scene, past and present. Readers may consider many of the more recent artists herein passé already, and some time lines within texts are already quite dated. Nonetheless, these slim volumes are crisply written (with a British flavor, including some Brit spellings) and informative, with buzzy, in-the-know tidbits. Clipped sentences make for fast reading. Many well-reproduced, mostly color photos, vibrant sidebars, and "Industry Case Studies" provide eye-popping appeal.
VERDICT Fans may enjoy these selections, with Music, Fashion, and Style standing out for its inherent trendiness. They may have a place in music appreciation and social history units.
