K-Gr 3—Two spotted bugs, the Polka-Dots, are searching for a new home with the help (or hindrance) of Mr. Weevil, an orange insect with a large proboscis. Dotted lines trace their house hunt, scurrying past mushrooms, tunneling underground, floating down a stream, and wandering through a broken bottle. Adults may be mildly amused by Mr. Weevil's misguided attempts at salesmanship, but children won't get the jokes. Boutavant's artwork, though busy, is captivating, and children will enjoy discovering humorous details depicting the lives of happy, big-eyed bugs. With its large format and brightly colored, retro-style illustrations, House Hunt is visually appealing to children. However, the narrative, conveyed exclusively in dialogue balloons, will not hold the attention of a group. An additional purchase best shared one-on-one or enjoyed by one or two children alone.—Martha Link Yesowitch, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, NC
