PreS-Gr 3—Eubank has slightly modified the traditional carol made famous by Johnny Cash and added a bright array of sentimentally reverent illustrations of the animals that contributed gifts to the baby Jesus. For example, "'I,' said the sheep with the curly horn,/'I gave him my wool for a blanket warm./He wore my coat on Christmas morn. I,' said the sheep with the curly horn." The plodding quatrains work better as a song than as poetry and the undistinguished watercolors with big-eyed animals do not add much.—
