K-Gr 2—This brief, rollicking tale of a forgetful knight lends itself particularly well to the audiobook format. Although Fred Blunt's clever illustrations are missing, John Keating's expressive Irish lilt will bring a smile to even the youngest faces. With Monty Python—like humor, Robinson tells of a not-so-brave knight who faces down a dragon who has possibly eaten the knight's best friend, Sir Clop. The pacing and rhyming text encourage audience participation. The details of the story are murky, as we discover that the ensuing battle may have affected the knight's memory. When the narrator reveals that he, indeed, is the forgetful knight, the entire reliability of the narrative is called into question, which only adds to its inherent humor.
VERDICT Children of all ages will enjoy this fanciful and funny adventure. ["A selection…that should produce plenty of giggles both in storytime or when shared one-on-one": SLJ 6/16 review of the Dial book.]
