Gr 9 Up—In this accessible version of Strobel's adult title, the author reflects on his personal journey from atheist to Christian through grace and faith, discussing how his estrangement from his earthly father led to his estrangement from the heavenly father. He embarks on a quest for a deeper understanding of grace by interviewing others who have also found God. Each chapter introduces a different subject, including Stephanie, a Korean orphan; Comrade Duch, the former executioner of the Khmer Rouge; Cody, a formerly homeless drug addict; and Brad and Heidi, a married couple. Each chapter features a "Read It Here" section in which the author references verses of scripture that relate to the experiences of the interviewees (these verses are also appended). Other works by the author are occasionally referenced. The writing is conversational and should appeal to teens.
VERDICT Best suited for parochial schools or church libraries.
