Gr 3-7–Pairing concepts such as evolution or gravity with the scientists who discovered them, this title brings a human element to the sometimes larger-than-life ideas that students may at first have trouble understanding. Older elementary students will be able to handle the densely worded paragraphs and science vocabulary that they will use in future classes. Though the book contains a lengthy glossary and scientific discovery time lines, it leaves a little more to be desired. The text on the big thinkers just scratches the surface of their achievements. However, bright illustrations, with a diverse set of scientists and additional intellectuals, make this a good starting point for researching important science figures.
VERDICT A good additional purchase for upper elementary science collections.
