PreS—This celebration of grandfathers shows various young animals enjoying time with their grandpas. A hedgehog child and grandpa make paper airplanes while a bear pair gather berries to make pie. Spreads with impressionistic illustrations lovingly describe the activity between the adults and children. The text is written as rhyming quatrains, though some rhymes work better than others ("My grandpa lifts me on my horse./I shout out, 'Giddyap!'/My grandpa gives me a push/till my horsie starts to gallop"), and the rhythm is off on several verses. This title may serve to fill a gap in titles about grandfathers, but Laura Numeroff's What Grandpas Do Best (S. & S., 2001) is a better choice.
VERDICT A serviceable title.
