PreS—Sukey Molloy, of the television show Sukey's Circle!, invites viewers to her living room, where she performs 18 children's songs—classics such as "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and some originals. With the classics, Molloy adds fun verses, as in "Old MacDonald," where owl and llama puppets are featured instead of traditional farm animals, and "Three Blind Mice" becomes less cruel—the "Three Itching Mice" do not suffer the loss of their tails. Molloy begins each segment with an introduction and suggestions for movements, and children will enjoy acting them out with her. Additionally, Molloy often uses props to teach simple concepts, including colors, shapes, and numbers. Her gentle, soothing delivery is reminiscent of Fred Rogers's, and this is a great selection to calm down toddlers and preschoolers. Molloy's voice is pleasant, and she is accompanied by musicians Steven on guitar and Axel on keyboard. She occasionally plays along on a chromaharp. Each segment starts with Sukey's "Hello Song" and ends with the "Time To Say Goodbye Song," which breaks up the flow of the DVD, especially since each tune is only a few minutes long, so watching this straight through means that these two songs are played 18 times, sure to inspire an earworm.
VERDICT This is a great choice for preschool classrooms and public libraries.
