Stories for South Asian Supergirls

Gr 5 Up–Khaira, the founder of the Pink Ladoo Project, has compiled the stories of 50 South Asian women from various eras who have made historical and cultural impacts around the world. Each single-page biography includes the figure’s country of birth, reminding readers that South Asian women reside in many countries, as well as background information and significant life events. Subjects range from Razia Sultan, who ruled Delhi in the 13th century, to Karpal Kaur Sandhu, the world’s first South Asian female police officer, to actress Mindy Kaling. These compelling stories cover many professions, giving readers bite-size chunks of material that may inspire further research. Each biography includes a full-page illustration by one of 10 South Asian female artists specifically selected by Khaira for the project.
