PreS-K–This imaginative lift-the-flap book is full of beautifully crafted images, and children will find the bold graphics and intricate details enormously appealing. Each page asks readers if they can spot a partially hidden creature of a different color. Part of the animal is visible from behind the flap. “This speedy little animal runs sideways and lives at the beach.” It is not just a crab, but a more descriptive “ghost crab.” Children will learn colors, and the strong vocabulary words will help with kindergarten readiness.–Kris Hickey, Columbus Metropolitan Library, OH
This board book introduces six animals, including a crab, a fish, and a butterfly. The answer to an introductory question ("Can you spot the green animal?") is revealed by lifting an often leaf-shaped flap to see the answer underneath (a snake). Additional information about the hidden animal is shown in smaller type. The colorful and multi-layered collage illustrations add context and content.
