PreS-Gr 3—The 10 original songs on Parker's fourth album are as delightful and kid-friendly as the ones on his three previous efforts. Opening with the rocking, upbeat tune "Dance!," Parker continues with a song of contrasts, "Inside Voices Outside Voices," in which he demonstrates the difference between the two and suggests when to use each by using vocal tension and intensity, loud/quiet volumes, and a driving beat. Other songs with great kid appeal include "Zoo Song" (a ballad about wanting to live at the zoo), "Dinosaur Walk" (an encouraging celebration of these extinct creatures by stomping feet), "What's Mine Is Yours" (a simple ditty about sharing), and "Yawns Are…" (a study about how contagious these are).
VERDICT Parker relies on driving beats to punctuate his upbeat tunes, but the uncomplicated arrangements and pleasing harmonies will make this a fine addition to storytimes and families looking for something to enjoy together.
