Gr 9 Up–This book focuses on 19-year-old Rose, who discovers she is a dreamdiver. Rose believes she is the only normal in an Atypical family, and struggles to find where she fits in as the only one without a superpower. Her dad is telekinetic, her mom is psychic, and her brother is a mind reader. Then Rose begins to have trouble staying awake and discovers that she is a dreamdiver, a person who is able to visit people in their dreams as well as create their own dream worlds. As Rose starts her journey of learning to control her power, she begins sessions with Dr. Bright and learns that those who appear to be helping her may not be who they seem. The story is told through Rose’s writings in her dream journal, her brother’s conversations in an online chat forum, Rose’s love interest’s fanfiction blog, and letters that her new friend Damien writes to his friend Mark. Not only does Rose deal with understanding her new normal and where she fits in her family, but she also must deal with her father’s early onset Alzheimer’s. Characters from previous novels play an important role in this book. Reading the series in order is strongly recommended.
VERDICT A nice addition to a unique series. Give to readers of the previous two books and fans of the podcast the series is based on.
