PreS-Gr 2–In this picture book originally published in Spanish, jabiru storks are used as a metaphor to show the variety of human social groupings. For each spread, jabiru storks are shown as a two-dimensional drawing against a flat natural backdrop with a single sentence describing both the storks and a human experience. One spread describes different family groupings, including eggs and chickling jabirus; another describes the passing of jabirus, all using a limited vocabulary.
VERDICT Recommended as an additional purchase for libraries to show different familial structures, how these structures can change and how each of us follows our own path.
