PreS-Gr 2—This visually appealing picture book features two penguins, Slipper and Flipper, who travel from Antarctica to the United States along the route their ancestor, Don Pingüino, took. The twin penguins replicate the fictional journey, and as long as readers are not expecting accurate history or geography, they will enjoy this. The story line is weak, but the illustrations are rich, detailed, and fun. Reagan uses photos with pen and ink line art to make vivid compositions.

Two penguin siblings set out to find legendary penguin explorer Don Pingüino, who is searching for the Land of the Golden Sun. Some readers will be disappointed that they never meet Don, but others will realize that the journey itself--through Easter Island, Rio, etc., and featuring cartoonish characters, dialogue bubbles, maps, color photographs, and gatefold pages--is the payoff.
