K-Gr 3—These titles mix craft and science in equal measure. After an introductory spread, the titles follow the same pattern: science topic, craft project, science topic, etc. The titles indicate the introductory content, although Wildlife./span> limits itself to common neighborhood critters like raccoons, frogs, and birds. The crafts correspond to the preceding spread either by theme or the materials used. The activities break no new ground: seed collages (Plants), rock sculptures (Rocks), leaf wreaths (Trees), and animal masks (Wildlife). Adult help is suggested for cutting, photographing, and mixing borax to make crystals (Rocks), but not for the plaster of Paris cast activity in each title except Plants. Photos accompany numbered directions, although occasionally, steps are assumed. (The addition of patterns might ease the mask making in Wildlife.) Carefully chosen and well-executed photographs are used for backgrounds, spots, insets, and overlays on the generous spreads, resulting in an attractive presentation. Useful resources for teachers and youth leaders.—Carol S. Surges, formerly at Longfellow Middle School, Wauwatosa, WI
