Bluebirds stay safe in a warm nest. Illustrations are done in a bright folk art style that calls attention to the patterns and geometric shapes found in nature. The animals have noticeably wide round eyes, which instantly encourages viewers to focus on the whimsically stylized creatures. The narrative has a rhyming style, which will keep readers engaged. Many of the pages begin with the name of the animal represented, which helps young children become acquainted with different types of animals. The book ends with the image of an interracial couple looking down at their child.
VERDICT A reassuring offering for one-on-one sharing that emphasizes themes of love, comfort, and parental devotion.
