PreS-Gr 2—For his debut album, Evan Michael assumes the retro rocker persona, Riff Rockit, and takes off with a dozen original tunes. He melds his talents with those of Mark Slaughter (of the band Slaughter) to create a jamming, rocking, rolling, rapping time. Each song is full of happy, kid-centered activities and themes that can be shared with parents. Highlights include "Rock with Me" (a heavy-metal tune full of movement suggestions), "What Was That?" (a pop number about strange noises), "Safari" (a rock/rap featuring lyrics about animals found on the Serengeti), "Big Wheel" (a driving rock song about getting out and exercising to blow off steam), and "Hero" (the closing number, about how small kindnesses are also the way to be a hero). "Nighlight," the only ballad in the collection, is about fear of the dark A slick production sure to keep rocker fans of many age groups happy.—Stephanie Bange, Wright State University, Dayton, OH
