Gr 9 Up—Best-selling author Anne Perry continues her video series with this latest entry covering character back stories. Drawing from news headlines, her writing, and her own life, Perry again shares examples to illustrate her writing insights and expertise to budding writers. Similar in format and length to the first installment, Perry speaks directly to the camera, explaining different methods to subtly convey why a story's characters behave the way they do. Eight chapters, approximately 10 minutes each, span topics such as mechanisms, reactions, and guilt. They are easily accessible one by one through the main menu. Six suggestions for writing exercises are also included.
VERDICT Simple in production but potentially vast in inspiration, this video would be a useful tool in classes for young creative writers.
