PreS-Gr 3—In his fifth children's recording under the name Terry a La Berry, Hall serves up 10 original tunes aimed directly at interests of youngsters. The title song, "Puppy Love," expresses the joy found whenever a puppy is added to a household. An interlude in "Square Dancing" is filled with all the elements of a great square dance —a fiddler, banjo and upright string bass, and a caller—and is sure to get youngsters up and moving. Making a bit of fun with the pronunciation of the word
spaghetti, "Pasghetti" is a celebration of pasta in all its forms and made more interesting with a Caribbean beat. Though he plays instruments on all songs and sings lead, a La Berry occasionally asks guest performers to join in. Singer Dona Frederico joins a La Berry in a duet about equity in employment in "I'm a Cowboy," while LuAnn Herring guests in "The Girl Who Cut My Hair," a song about getting a really bad haircut. The album closes with "Stand Up," an empowering number that encourages boys and girls to stand up for what they believe. Positive messages and humor pervade each song.
VERDICT Fans of a La Berry's previous work will especially enjoy.
