In this upbeat follow-up to Apple Countdown, Ms. Blue's class visits a pumpkin patch; the rhyming and counting--down from twenty to one--start before the children arrive ("'There are twenty nametags to make,' says Jake"; "'For nineteen kids plus Ms. Blue,' says Drew"). The fact- and dialogue-balloon-cramped illustrations may distract from the book's mission: to get readers counting.
