PreS-Gr 2—This DVD includes five episodes from the children's animated television show that ran from 2010–2013—four of which are from season one and one of which is from season three. The animation is standard Saturday morning cartoon style. The voice acting is excellent, though, and features René Auberjonois (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) as pound director McLeish and M. Emmet Walsh (Blade Runner) as pound staff member Olaf. The main characters are the lead dog, a mutt named Lucky; his sidekick Cookie, a boxer; Niblet, an Old English Sheepdog; Squirt, a Chihuahua with lots of attitude; and genius inventor Strudel, a dachshund. Their Kennel Kitten rivals include Ace, the lead cat; Fluffy, a marmalade feline; and Squeak, a Siamese. In "Cat Calls," the pups compete with the kittens to place a pet with a family who can only keep one animal. The cats steal a robotic hand from Strudel in "Kennel Kittens Return," and Squirt goes undercover as a kitty to retrieve it. The other episodes include "Call of the Squirrel Dog," "The Really Weird Dog," and "Once a Ralph, Always a Ralph."
VERDICT Humorous and sometimes silly, this production will entertain young dog and cat lovers.
