PreS—Polly wakes up one morning and discovers that her "pipers" are missing. Dumbstruck, she frantically searches for them throughout her home, with the help of her parents, who don't even know what they're looking for. While they check obvious places (under her bed and inside the closet), the question and answer, "Were the pipers there?" "No" are repeated. Very little occurs, except for the act of searching. Polly ultimately finds what she is looking for underneath a pile of coloring books and crayons in her room. "Oh, your papers! Mommy and Daddy….were so glad to see that Polly had found her pipers.'" Busy, unappealing watercolor illustrations and plain, bold lines of text fill the pages. Children are likely to lose interest in this dull story.—Krista Welz, North Bergen High School, NJ
