PreS-Gr 1—These books are not written in story format but consist of snippets of conversation that might be heard as children participate in various experiences. They make comments, ask questions, and exclaim about the events. Performance begins with youngsters preparing for a play ("Sing up! Reach for those high notes!") and concludes with the final production ("Well done, everyone! Take a bow!"). School highlights getting ready, typical activities, and returning home. Trip includes riding the bus ("When will we get there? Will it take long?"), viewing the displays, and returning to school. Sports Day mentions games and stations, from being put in groups to naming the winners of each event. Watercolor illustrations in vibrant primary hues show multiple characters and plenty of action. Much of the emotion and activity can be gleaned from pictures of rosy-cheeked kids having fun. These books are meant to be used as conversation starters between an adult and child. They will not get much use independently.—Sandra Welzenbach, Villarreal Elementary School, San Antonio, TX
