PreS-Gr 2—Peg and her sidekick, Cat, take four mathematical problem-solving journeys to their favorite place in outer space, the "Purple Planet." There, they work out the solutions with song and dance routines and several pals: Ramone, a deus ex machina character; Richard, a whiner and crybaby; and Big Mouth, a furry blue villain. With these unlikely helpers and hindrances, they manage to discern patterns, make a number line, use ordinal numbers, make inane comparisons, and create predictions. The best line in this comical, animated DVD is a wry comment made to Peg and Cat, "It's one problem after another with you two." Kids who like cartoons will enjoy the nonsense and musical production numbers, while parents will appreciate the occasional cleverness and the math connections.
VERDICT Ideal for parents looking for entertainment with ample doses of educational math content to share with their kids.
