Gr 3–5—This excellent, fast-paced series reads, at times, like a junior training manual. Readers will get the inside scoop on what it takes to be a member of the U.S. Special Forces: strength, smarts, and stamina. Each volume covers its featured unit's history, gear, and agenda, using technical names of weapons and jargon. There are a few mentions of women not being allowed to join the combat arms of these teams, and that "some people believe that's unfair," but there is no further elaboration. Still, students will be fascinated by the concise but satisfying information and the color photographs of troops at work.
