K-Gr 4–Lerwill introduces young readers to places all over the world, including Antarctica, Paris, Kenya, and New York City, connecting them to relevant colors. People of various skin tones and ethnicities are illustrated throughout, so many readers will see themselves represented in this beautiful picture book. Each page contains a new color, straightforward text, and distinct illustrations. For example, the color blue shows a blue whale diving deep into the ocean on one page. The opposite page features the blue sky above Mount Everest and interesting facts. The end of the book includes a map of the spotlighted cities, which is a great resource. This page also lists the colors written in nine different languages, emphasizing the book’s wide range of cultures.
VERDICT A welcome addition to elementary libraries that will make for a great read-aloud.
