At the end, the bunny earns a well-deserved respite and an egg of its own. Told in rhyming verse in five spreads, Robbe manages to pack a lot of action in minimal text. The cadence of rhyming is spot-on, and young readers will be absorbed by bunny’s odyssey. Ro’s soft, impressionistic illustrations have a splendid sunrise quality, with rich purples, oranges, blues, and greens. The most charming details are the ways in which each animal treasures its egg, with an embrace and reverent gaze. This follow-up to One Black Cat is a testament to how the intersection of novelty, illustration, and premise can refresh a very familiar story line.
