Longing for a pet of her own, Stella is determined to catch the pigeon and drags Gerald along for the adventure. There are other people searching for the bird as well: Stella's bullying older brother Levi and his crew, a host of other citizens of the quiet town of Meadville, South Carolina, and a small homeless brown dog. Meanwhile, Mr. Mineo is wondering where his crazy bird has gone. O'Connor's story (Farrar, Straus, 2012) is slow paced but has enough tension to hold listeners' interest.
