Gr 3–6-This book of 24 DIY projects focuses on making from a designer's perspective. The projects include whimsical and visually appealing objects such as flip-flops made out of cardboard, felt, and rope. Of the 24 crafts included in this book, half of them require some adult supervision. Supplies needed run the gamut, from common items (cardboard boxes, rubber bands, branches, bottles, yarn, and old CDs) to ones more complicated (light bulbs, lamp fittings, wire, polymer clay). The same goes for tools , which range from scissors to power drills. Two standout projects include an engineering marvel of a copter made from a strip of paper that is simply cut, folded, and glued, and a floating bookcase made out of wood, rope, and well-placed binder clips (no further tools required). Most activities can be done as a group, whether in a library, a school, or a makerspace.
VERDICT Recommended for libraries that serve makers with a strong interest in design and interior decorating.-Vi Ha, Los Angeles Public Library
