Gr 9 Up—One of the fastest growing and most visible ethnic groups in the United States is of South Asian origin, particularly from India. Yet, this documentary is one of the few available resources that examine the unique history, characteristics, and diversities of this community. Told in the first person, the program adopts a genial tone as a young Indian-American producer sets out to share insights into a multiplicity of cultural characteristics from the ubiquitous—and title referenced—red dots on foreheads to the complexities of the Hindu religion. He utilizes a wide variety of interviews with a spectrum of Indian Americans of all ages and backgrounds as well as commentary by academicians, religious figures, and authors on their experiences and observations. Graphics, print visuals, and video clips add variety to the nicely paced presentation. English subtitles are utilized when pronunciation might be problematic. No chapter selection option is offered, but that isn't a critical shortcoming. The program expands the awareness and perception of the Indian-American population in our country and will serve as a springboard for discussion about this group as well as sensitivities to other communities, ethnic and otherwise. Many collections will find this a useful addition.—
