Toddler-PreS–This bilingual board book, inspired by the biblical story of Noah’s Ark, introduces young readers to pairs of animals using their specific husbandry terms. Another fantastic bilingual board book series from the publisher, reminiscent of
Guadalupe: First Words/Primeras palabras. Each spread features an adorable illustration set against a dark, rainy backdrop, highlighting a variety of animals, from familiar farm animals to wild species, like tigers. Instead of using general names commonly found in similar board books (such as “horse”), both the male and female terms are presented in English and Spanish (“stallion/caballo and “mare/yegua”). The simplicity of the illustrations and large, bold text will help young readers focus on each animal and its corresponding word. There is not much of a story, and the connection to Noah’s Ark appears only on the final page, as the animals board the boat two by two with Noah overseeing nearby.
VERDICT A good choice for libraries seeking a fresh, vocabulary-rich approach to animal terminology and a strong introduction to new Spanish and English words.
