PreS-Gr 3—Even for a family of bandits, life can be ordinary. But when mom and dad start to fight, split up, and then remarry (he to a princess with her own brood of royals; she to a dragon with fire-breathing children of his own), their children must negotiate an entirely new lifestyle. After attempts to sabotage their new stepsiblings fail, the kids decide to work it out with their new gigantic, interspecies clan. By the end of the story the blended families live near one another and throw wild parties together. Despite the imaginative elements, the story feels a bit heavy-handed. Still, for those looking for a fantasy story about a happy nontraditional family, this pen-and-ink and watercolor piece has its charms.—Jennifer Miskec, Longwood University, Farmville, VA
