PreS-K—Most parents of preschoolers will recognize the familiar refrain that Jeanne repeats throughout the book. Callier's writing is clear and simple, allowing Masson's spirited pencil and watercolor cartoon illustrations to bring out the emotions of Jeanne and her mother. Especially effective is the depiction of the child screaming "NO, NO, and NO!, No Way!" as a fierce-looking dragon escapes from her mouth. All ends sweetly, and youngsters are left to draw their own meaning from the text. Callier presents a realistic story with which children and adults will identify. A final "Note to Parents and Other Caregivers" gives useful information about preschool defiance and suggests ways that adults might use the book to launch a discussion about behavior.—Nora Clancy, Teachers College Community School, NY
