Gr 2-4–This title highlights interesting facts using the “You read, I read” style. The page on the left is designed for the more experienced reader, while the right side is built for beginning readers. Kids learn about multiple animals with tails, where the animals live, and how they communicate using these tails. By the end, they will know how tails help animals stay safe and survive in different environments. Full-page colorful photos of each animal accompany contrasting, clearly visible text. Each chapter has a “Your Turn” section where readers can do an activity, such as drawing a favorite animal with a tail or matching. Some words appear in bold text, but there is no glossary or index. Comparable titles include books in the “We Both Read” series.
VERDICT A quick nonfiction title that new and experienced readers who love animals can read together.
