What Children Wish

PreS-K—According to the back cover, a popular radio program invited young listeners to send in their wishes, and this book is the result. From the fanciful ("I wish that I could ride a horse to school") to the silly ("I wish that everything was made of chocolate") to the heartfelt ("I wish that everybody in the world has a home"), the sentiments are childlike in tone and invite youngsters to think about what they might hope for. Wolfermann's simple and colorful cartoon artwork adds a touch of humor. Overall, this Swiss import is a sweet but nonessential purchase.—Lauralyn Persson, Wilmette Public Library, IL
This slim volume presents a selection of the wishes that children submitted to a radio program. Cartoony illustrations effectively picture scenes from the fantastical ("I wish that I could fly to Mars and look for alien bones") to the poignant ("I wish that my granny can see again"). The tone is uneven and a little too precious.
