PreS-Gr 3—Z Puppets Rosenschnoz, a Minneapolis-based national touring company that combines puppetry and music in its performances, is directed by David DeGennaro who composed and performs the music and lyrics to this puppet show's soundtrack. The nine tracks are a mix of songs and dialogue which tell the story of Cap'n Fitz, a sea captain searching for the legendary Waters of Calm. His journey is interrupted by the havoc-wreaking Monkey Mind Pirates who afflict him with doubt, anxiety, and distraction. But the Cap'n finally discovers basic principles of yoga that help him manage stress and regain calmness. The musicians perform very well on piano, melodica, drums, percussion, guitar, bass, strings, and trumpet. A children's chorus joins in on these mostly show tune songs, with some rock and calypso to boot. Among the eight songs are "Z Puppets Rosenschnoz Theme," "Aargh Mateys," "You'll Never Win," "The Legend of Calm," and "Sea Monkey Do." The final track is the sound of a single chime intended to encourage listeners to relax by performing calming exercises. The instructions for the exercises as well as for making a shadow puppet monkey are in the lyrics booklet.—Beverly Wrigglesworth, San Antonio Public Library, TX
