Gr 1–4—Despite the plethora of museums in Mi's city, he and his newfound musician friend, Yu, suffer ennui. No longer content with choices like the "Museum of One Million Completely Boring Things," the duo visit the mayor (a mustachioed piglike creature) with a proposal to begin a museum about "the sounds pebbles make when dropped from different heights onto different surfaces." The mayor is finally won over by a demonstration. This museum's success inspires other citizens' unusual openings, like a museum of three billion raindrops with one piece of lost rainbow and one for "very interesting but useless things." Some buildings grow, while others fly. Sarah's small and delicate line drawings are ideal companions for this fabulous nonsense. Every page is totally packed with comic elements both visual and verbal. From the blob animal heroes to the Museum of Unnecessary Words at the Back of Books, each careful drawing is a delight.
VERDICT Prepare to spend hours savoring this book that advocates creative community involvement.
