Gr 7 Up—The Iremongers, forced from their home when it was burned to the ground in Foulsham (Overlook, 2014), have settled in London, which they have not-so-affectionately dubbed Lungdon. With them, they bring darkness and despair to the entire city. Londoners are disappearing right and left, and random objects are being discovered everywhere. Iremongers are also under attack, and it's Clod who must sort out the good from the bad, the humans from the leathers, and the birth objects from the mundane. This dark, dingy conclusion to the trilogy doesn't quite have the warmth of its predecessors, but fans of the series will appreciate the many answered questions and the nail-biting conclusion. It's filled to the brim with the author's own black-and-white illustrations, which will give readers of any age the shivers.
VERDICT Even though the weird factor has been raised to a new level, this is a must-read for those who loved the first two installments.
