PreS-Gr 1—Lulu is upset when Daddy says that, because of the snow, they are going to the museum instead of playing in the park, and she makes sure that everyone knows of her discontent. Daddy has had enough of her fits and has Lulu take a seat in the museum lobby until she calms herself down. That is when the excitement for Lulu begins. Angel babies from the artwork come to life and take Lulu on an adventure through the art that one can only imagine. The comic book format of this picture book for younger elementary students is very appealing and easy to follow. The panels are large with vibrant illustrations and speech bubbles not overcrowded with words. With multiple panels on most pages, the pace of the story is quick, keeping the story flowing nicely. The large, colorful illustrations with pops of red draw readers right into wintertime landscape in the city. The cartoon characters are realistic and friendly-looking and the backgrounds are distinct and detailed. Children will relate to Lulu's improved mood as she gets to have the fun that she was longing for, floating into the scenes represented in the notable works of art, not simply dragging behind Daddy on an ordinary museum tour.
VERDICT Younger children that are eager to dive into comics and graphic novels will be thrilled to discover this gem. A fun read-aloud before a museum visit or class outing.
