K-Gr 3—Honored by three previous Parents Choice awards, Weathersby presents 10 original songs about Earth—its place in the universe and its history—on his fifth album for children. The backup vocals blend with Weathersby's in some very nice harmonies on these mostly rock songs. The instrumental musicians give excellent performances on guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass, keys, harmonica, piccolo, flute, drums and percussion. "Mystery and History" takes a look at our ancestors. "Atomic Monsters Have Come" is a tribute to 1950s and 1960s atomic monster movies, complete with helicopter sounds and military personnel shouting. "Lucky #3" explains the uniqueness of Earth in being "just right" to support life. "Yellowstone Henihco'oo'" is a homage to Yellowstone's beauty;
henihco'oo' is an Arapahoe word meaning "steam rising." "Harryhausen" is a tribute to Ray Harryhausen, a movie visual effects creator. The other songs include "1977" about the twin
Voyager spacecraft, "Gravity," "Great Meteor Crater" (in Arizona), "The Expanding Man," and "Talking to the Rocks." A very enjoyable album that combines science and imagination.—
