PreS-Gr 2—As a little bear prepares for bed, he stares out the window with his bunny friend, looking at the night sky. Slightly covered by clouds, a star says, "You may not be able to see me tonight, but I can see you as you turn off the light." The star offers assurance that his presence and love will always be there, whether Bear is outside in the flowers and grass, or camping under a tree at night. "God put me here to watch over you." The star appears on each page, hovering over Bear and friends, sometimes obviously in view and sometimes in the background. "Know that your star loves you tonight. You are never alone" for the stars are the "light in God's eyes." The cuddly, childlike animals are rendered in acrylics, primarily in greens and blues. This calm, reassuring bedtime story has general religious overtones, without being overt or focused on a singular belief. A pleasant offering, but not a standout.—
