K-Gr 3—Live action and animation combine in this lively mix of story and information. Miss Danni Donkey is the enthusiastic costumed adult host. She leads a group of five children through songs and dances as her animated friend, Clyde the Polar Bear, introduces viewers to bears from around the world. Short videos highlight different bears and—through dance, music, and animation—viewers meet fictional sumo bears, tai chi bears, surfing bears, and more. The music is often deliberately derivative—a sad opera song sung by a circus bear and "California Bear," a song reminiscent of "California Girls," for example. Most children won't notice, but adults will catch the references. The factual information provided is slight, but the songs and dances are mostly fun and bouncy.
VERDICT An enjoyable choice for an activity time that will get children on their feet and moving, while providing a few facts along the way.
