Baby-K–This is a love letter from a mother to her unborn child. Written with warm and poetic verse, the book follows a mother whispering her love to the child that grows inside her. She measures the baby’s growth with comparisons to fruits and vegetables. At the end of the book, readers see the child born and snuggling with its mother. The artwork is rendered in soft watercolors and makes use of quilting patterns featuring simple designs as well as flowers, birds, and fruits. The colors range from cool blues to rich golds and oranges. The text is wonderfully written and offers a feeling of beauty, love, and anticipation; however, the story may not have high appeal for children.
VERDICT While a truly sweet read, this book may be more suited for parents than for kids; regardless, the artwork is outstanding.
